DECONSTRUCTED LANDSCAPES

Deconstructed Landscapes is Lottie Allen’s photographic investigation into the Anthropocene, through the exploration of resource extraction. By photographing the human impacts on the environment Allen hopes to raise awareness to prevent our landscapes from getting to a place where they are beyond salvaging. When investigating the evidence of human consumption present within the landscape Allen became inexplicably drawn to the site of quarries. Engulfed by the vastness of the manipulation that had undergone in these spaces, and how human consumption drastically changed the landscapes forever.

In this series, we are shown a collection of images of different quarries from across the Lothians. Allen guides the audience through the different stages of quarries that we see embedded within our landscapes, disused quarries, active quarries, and repurposed quarries. With each stage, we see how new man-altered lands interact within the landscape.
